About Cooperative Education
The Florida Atlantic University's College of
Engineering and Computer Science is committed to the pursuit
of academic excellence in teaching and research. The curriculum emphasis
is upon understanding and application of scientific and engineering
principles. In direct support of this, the college sponsors an attributes-based,
traditional Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) available to undergraduate
students with a declared major in the college.
Co-op is a unique plan of education that integrates
classroom learning with planned, supervised multiple work experiences.
Co-op students obtain on-the-job work experience that is directly
related to their academic majors in private, public and governmental
organizations. Co-op students earn both a salary and academic credit.
The co-op program is designed for students to enroll during their
junior level academics and complete 12 months of off-campus work
experience before graduating. To accomplish this, two co-op
work/study plans are available, (alternating or parallel). Both
co-op plans require a six semester commitment by students and employers
to reach the goal of 12 months work experience and a degree. The
program is a cooperative effort among employers, students, and faculty
to provide talented, practice-oriented graduates who meet the demands
of industry and society.
